Meet Monica Johnson

                                                        monica8

Her Story
Monica Johnson is an encourager/exhorter by nature and a  worshipper of God who tries to live her life as an example of God's love but realizes he is still perfecting her. Early in life, Monica realized that she was called to help others but after "falling in love" she began to withdraw from the opportunities and people that God brought across her path. Trying to fill a void that only God could fill...Monica became frustrated. In 2005, she answered the tug in her heart to surrender totally to God by crying out, "I refuse to be in this same place this time next year!" For Monica, it wasn't necessarily a physical place but rather a spiritual one for she realized that life was not about money...careers... relationships etc but about knowing God. In search of finding her God that was calling deep within her spirit, Monica followed the Holy Spirit's leading to Houston, TX. This came about after being let go from her job as a Financial Aid Counselor at a college. She had been questioning if she should let her position go but was not certain. During a lunch break, she no longer wanted to "cater" to the thought of letting her job go...so Monica said, "if God wants me to leave my job...then He'll have to fire me himself." That was at 1pm and at 3pm Monica's supervisor called her in the office and said that they no longer needed her. It was a bitter sweet moment for Monica but she found peace in the "quick answered prayer." Monica went on a 3 day fast in order to seek clearer direction in which a question of why she would be going to where she was going was asked. The option was either seminary school for a Master's in Biblical Counseling or Lakewood Church in Houston. Upon the answer that going to seminary would come from the motive of seeking another career and because she didn't know anyone in Houston ," the only reason I would go would be to seek God", Monica stated ...she heard the Holy Spirit say "seek first God and all else would follow." Monica moved to Houston, TX to join Lakewood Church in September 2005 and God has been showing her more of Him (His love, grace, mercy, favor). Her cry now is "oh Lord, unless your presence goes with me...I will not go. Bless me by showing me more of You!"

How God has ordered Monica's steps/ Experiences

Monica Johnson is an ordained minister (as of 2007) through the Hunter's Ministry. She interned for 11 (Sept 2007- July 2008) months at Lakewood Church in Houston, TX  under leadership of Pastor Joel Osteen in the Pastoral Care Ministries where she was part of the staff devotional writing team, wrote weekly encouragements for volunteers, taught classes within the Freedom Series, worked day to day administration of the hospital and nursing home ministry, collaborated with Mission Houston for the Revive, Restore, Renew (park clean up day...in which was given an honorable mention award by the mayor) . She worked with Benevolence, Celebrate Recovery (often leading the corporate prayer and teaching a lesson) and assisted in Moma Dodie (Osteen) prayer and healing services. Most importantly, Monica  was able to work with great staff members and glean from their heart and wisdom.
Monica has even worked on staff at Lakewood and was  a chaplain for the PTA at Northeast Christian Academy. She has served in the Lakewood Church choir for a year working under Israel Houghton, Cindy Ratcliff, Michael & Fiona Mellot and Steve & Da'dra Crawford (of the group Anointed which is where she claims that it is there that God began to show her the heart of worship when it comes to praise because she didn't think she could sing so she had to just focus on the heart of worship. Monica has  received 50 hrs of training as a Stephen Minister (at Lakewood).
She currently ministers through writing via The InLight. which  was featured in the October Issue of Empowered Magazine as The Spotlight Ministry. The InLight Encouragements have been used to encourage various audiences including the volunteers at Lakewood Church Freedom Series, as part of the staff devotional team at Lakewood Church, read by Dodie Osteen and on air at 89.3 (Houston, TX) These messages are currently being comprised in different books and turned in audio messages.
Monica has a BA in Speech Communications with a minor in Marketing and is a single mother of a 10 year old son.  Monica gives all glory to God for her opportunities by saying

" God gets the glory and praise for every opportunity brought my direction. For each one, I learned more about Him...more about myself in Him and receive the confidence in Him that He has more in store in order to use it to bless others"
